with Robert Béla Wilhelm, Th.D.
I was born in Manhattan, New York City in 1943 -- the first-born child of immigrant parents. I am a traditional storyteller who first learned my art from Emilia Sipos Wilhelm, my Hungarian grandmother and Valeria Norisova Wilhelm, my Slovak mother.
My M.A. is in Religious Education from Catholic University of America (1971), and my Th.D. is in Storytelling as a Sacred Art from the Graduate Theological Union (1976) I have taught pre-school, elementary school, university, and seminary. I have also been a youth minister, a pastoral associate, and a pilgrimage director.
I am a Byzantine Catholic Christian. My theology and spirituality are rooted in the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, and my prayer life is rooted in the traditions of the Eastern Christian churches. I am an iconographer, a hagiographer, and a storyteller.
I am married to Dr. Mary Jo Kelly Wilhelm, a Roman Catholic, and we live in DeLand, Florida from November to April and in Hagerstown, Maryland from April to November.
Short online seminars are offered on different times and days of the week throughout the year. Come join us and enjoy the stories and the discussions.
Our retreats and seminars in West Virginia are generally two days and three nights. Tuition is $155. Meals and lodgings, which are extra, are economical, comfortable, and in the lovely setting of the Shenandoah Valley at Priest Field Pastoral Center.
Any of these events can be adapted for your comunity, as a prayerful retreat, an educational seminar, or a storytelling concert. Can be scheduled midweek, weekends, or over a period of weeks. I am flexible and happy to meet your scheduling needs. Cost is $1000 per full or partial day, plus travel expenses.
The two-day retreats can be combined with a storytelling concert the evening before.
I honor my spiritual teachers and remain faithful to their teachings:
Wayne R.Rood, a Seventh-Day Baptist religious educator and dramatist in California;
Jorge Rosner, a Secular Jew and Gestalt Therapist in Canada;
and Metropolitan Anthony Bloom, physician and Orthodox priest in England.
