Storytelling and Storylistening is more than a skill in the practice of ministry. It is also a form of prayer, a creative and artistic form of prayer.
Over the past 40 years I have found that many who come to learn storytelling skills for their professional work or ministry also come for another reason… And frequently that other reason is far more important. They come to nurture their inner life, to deepen their spirituality, to find God in their own story.
There are many forms of spiritual direction in the Christian tradition… Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, Ignatian Spiritualty, to name just a few. What I offer is from another strand in Christian tradition… combining Biblical stories with the folkloric wisdom of the peoples of the world and the power of our own personal pilgrimage story. And the framework is a pilgrimage through time, a journey through the Christian liturgical year.
A pilgrimage is also a commitment. Once we cross the threshold, and begin our journey, we need to stay faithfully on the pilgrim's path. At least for long enough to know whether this is the right path for ourselves. If you would like me to mentor you on this journey, I ask that you commit yourself for ten weeks.
We would meet each week for 30 minutes, using Skype for our conversations. And the Scripture and the Story would be to prepare for the coming Sunday. Maybe the ten week journey is just what you need at this time in your life... and you will need not continue beyond the ten weeks. Or, perhaps it might be the beginning of a longer pilgrimage. You will know.
Financial costs are the same as my other mentoring and tutoring. $25 per half-hour session. A ten week commitment at a time -- for as short or long journey as your pilgrimage will be.
