About Our Online Seminars
I have been facilitating online seminars through the School of Sacred Storytelling since 2007. We use Skype video for our weekly conference calls, which means that you need a free Skype account to participate, plus a video cam and an internet connection. Our groups range from 2 to 7 persons, that is, myself and 1 to 6 other participants.
There are six lessons over the six weeks. New lessons are assigned immediately after the completion of our weekly online video discussion. Each group session is 45 minutes. Every student has an additional 30 minute one-to-one video session with me each week as part of the tutorial process. Times for scheduling the tutorial are flexible.
Credit for the seminar requires attendance at 5 of the 6 online sessions, plus completion of a small, creative project by the end of the seminar. There are no exams, no grades, but a certificate of proficiency will be sent to you when you have completed your requirements.
Credit for six seminars is required to graduate as a Master Storyteller from the School of Sacred Storytelling, chosen from online or onsite seminars. In addition, there is an "Apprenticeship Project" that can be completed as the seventh and final course. When completed, submitted, and accepted, you will have the option to present your work at the annual Guild Retreat of the School of Sacred Storytellers. Estimated cost for tuition (7 seminars) is less than $2100. The apprenticeship needs to be completed within 3 years of initial acceptance.
The Apprenticeship in Sacred Storytelling is an intensive small-group and one-to-one tutorial process. It is a fellowship of persons who are passionate about, and committed to, the art of sacred storytelling. There are no denominational requirements, though most participants are Protestant and Catholic Christians. I myself am a Catholic and an active member of a Byzantine Rite parish. My approach is ecumenical and inter-religious. I am deeply indebted to my two teachers, Jorge Rosner and Wayne Rood, both deceased. I am a theologian, a storyteller, and an iconographer. -- Robert Bela Wilhelm, Th.D.
About This Seminar: St. Francis of Assisi
This seminar is also a pilgrimage to the land of St. Francis. The seminar contains audio and video resources to create a virtual pilgrimage to the places in Italy where Francis dwelt: Assisi, Greccio, LaVerna, Subasio, and other pilgrimage destinations. In the seminar we explore the stories in depth and make them our own -- for our own spiritual enrichment and to share with others.
